One common mistake people make, when grabbing a domain, is either choosing a short website name or one that is too long that is either ambiguous to spell or does not real come to mind when your customer thinks of you, for example using something like SMI121.com for your company Semiconductor Mayasan Industries.
Another example of ambiguity is when you would have a company called ABDCE Electronics, and the website domain is ABCDEELECTRONICS.com. I would make sure you also get ABCDELECTRONICS.com and see about getting ABCDE.com as well. An example of someone who is doing it right is STMicroelectronics. They have covered most domains that will lead back to themselves. They own: ST.com, STmicro.com, STMicroelectronics.com and a 11 more sites as well.
But remember, choosing the right Domain is only half the battle. Making sure your pages are designed properly so they can be read by search engines is most important. Whoever runs your website, should make sure the key products/words or things you want your customers to know about you are easily identifiable and searchable. For example, if you specialize in Timing Devices, that should be front and centre in your meta tags. Meta tags are HTML codes that are inserted into the header on a web page, after the title tag. In the context of search engine optimization, when people refer to meta tags, they are usually referring to the meta description tag and the meta keywords tag.
What is a Meta Tag? Glad you asked! Meta Tags are words used to: 1- describe what you are about and 2- provide keywords about you and your products. The Meta tag is not seen by users when they visit your site, but instead, these tags have the main purpose to provide document data to search engines. You can analyze the effectiveness of your meta-tags right here. You will instantly have a report card on what you need to work on.
