Web Design is a serious business. We would never tell anyone to do anything, but put out the most professional website. Nevertheless, we still think there is room for fun in electronics. We, of course, use the term fun loosely. One of our favorite sites, was from a supplier called Associated Components Technology (ACT). This is of course, before their current re-design. Back in the day they had a great example of  merging serious tools and fun. Below is some of the content they had for fun. The serious stuff still remains on their site today:

Sure, a lot of this was benign humor, but it was enough to keep them in many people’s favorites when they needed a chuckle. And inevitability, one would find themselves searching there site for something more serious. Sure the design was rudimentary at best, but the idea of fun and serious can lead to some business too. Unfortunately, Associated Components Technology (ACT), a few years back canned the fun. They went with a serious site. Not that anything was wrong with it. It’s a beautiful site, but without the fun it seems just like any other site (See Above). What is the differentiator? I can’t blame ACT for wanting to be taken seriously, but for many us, it will remain a site we were fond of.
