We were talking the other day in the office about the fear of e-marketing and e-technology in general. There is now a big divide occurring in the workplace with young internet savvy workers having ideas and concepts they see useful to their companies, but “management” has a lack of interest or fear at the suggestion. We hear it all the time.
One of the reasons this blog was started, and focused originally on the electronic component industry, was to bring e-marketing education to an industry focused on technological advances but quite ignorant of internet marketing. Surprisingly, we quickly learnt the electronic component industry is not alone. Most decision makers in most industries fall into some combination of conservatism. There is a fear or lack of understating of what is out there and how it can enhance the user experience on the web.
From that point, on of two situations usually occurs. The conservative company either adopts three positions: ignoring e-marketing, have a resistance to move anything beyond RSS Feeds, or let a web design company decide without really understanding what the true business needs are. On the other side, there are companies who want to use e-marketing, but are overzealous in their goal to implement without understanding it. They get stuck on buzz words and those sites they have heard of such as YouTube or Facebook. The just want to be hot, and sprinkle job postings and talk about WEB 2.0 without really understanding, first, what is WEB 2.0 and secondly if it has any relationship to their business.
The Mark8t blog is a place for both sides. Our goal is to educate you. We will discuss e-marketing strategies, solutions and those sites getting the buzz and their effectiveness for your business. At the end of the day, knowledge is power, but it means nothing if it’s not integrated properly. Think about it: It’s great to know you can make a custom Google Toolbar or make a Heat Map, but does it matter to your company? Does it achieve your goals. This is where Mark8t comes in. We welcome you to contact us via email, leave comments, suggest articles, or even use our consulting services. Whatever the level of comfort, we are here to help you navigate and understand. And for those suffering and frustrated by management, send them the link to this blog. Tell them to start reading, and we promise they’ll learn something. And who knows, you might just create an ally to make your case about moving beyond RSS feeds….
