Google’s New Search-based Keyword Tool
With Google, they are always new tools and gadgets and sometimes it’s hard to keep track of them all. On our blog, we hope to highlight them for you. One such item is Google’s newly released keyword tool (Click image to left to enlarge). This new keyword selector is especially for Google Adwords users and people working on SEO (Search Engine Optimization). Named the Search-Based Keyword Tool, this tool goes beyond what the older Google keyword selector offered. While this tool was created to increase advertisers spend with Google, you can also use this as a nice competitive analysis tool or for just plain SEO. Just type in any website and you can easily see which keywords are relevant to focus on – or what your competitors might be targeting.
Like Google points out: ” The tool is also useful if you don’t currently advertise on AdWords. For example, a shoe store could discover which footwear styles users are searching for, or a digital camera blog could decide which cameras to review by looking at which camera models attract the most queries.”
Another interesting aspect to Google’s Keyword Selector tool is allowing you to know the value of the keywords you might be targeting or you might be successful with. We highgly recommend you do an ego search on you site today. So what are you waiting for? Check out Google’s Search-Based Keyword Tool !

Since the release we’ve been using Google’s tool on nearly every project. It’s got a lot of really useful features. Previously we’d used the Adwords tool and a keyword research and ranking tool we built in-house using wordze api. It’s now offered on our company website for free. Thought maybe readers interested in this article may find it useful. Feel free to check it out and let us know what you think.

I am looking for some advice on the Google tool, I wonder if you can help.
I often search and there are 1000’s of results displayed in the Approx Avg Search Volume column yet the data from the previous month is “Insufficient Data”.
This does not make logical senses to me as how can there be no search volume (Insufficient data) during previous months if there are 1000’s on an average month.
Your help would be greatly appreciated.
My only thought is as a new product they have some kinks to work out. Do you have an example of a searched term?
