YouTube 3D: Coming Soon To A Computer Near You
We know we’re a little premature in telling you about this, but it’s exciting. The folks over at YouTube are right now testing a new feature that will allow you to create 3D videos. Its a great way for your video to standout, and add an extra pizazz to your marketing plan. All you need is a web cam, a good idea, tag your video with “yt3d:enable=true”and some 3D glasses. Okay that was the basic idea. Unfortunately, as this an alpha release, there are no official manual yet. This is the closest thing to a tutorial. In short the instructions:
1. Make a 3d video in cross-eye (right/left) format using a 3D webcam or or just use two regular webcams (see video tutorial). Alternatively, you can use a dual miniDV camera rig, paired digital cameras, or an upcoming S-3D camera.
2. Upload your video to YouTube.
3. Write “yt3d:enable=true” as the last tag in the “TAGS” field.
4. Watch with a pair of 3D glasses (red/cyan recommended)
You can follow along this YouTube forum thread for more info as you experiment. There are some great tips on how to make the perfect 3D video and provide your feedback to Google’s YouTube team. Most importantly you can create a 3D video right now without a huge budget or a special camera. Its also a great time to learn before your competition and hone your 3D video skills before YouTube officially releases this feature.
